Indicators of Excellence in the Four QEP Themes

Indictors of excellence in each of the four QEP themes are as follows:

Research: Students should graduate from Texas A&M University able to analyze problems, formulate (research) questions, and progress toward answers to those questions within their fields, modifying these answers as new knowledge dictates. The following are pertinent questions to measure this theme:

    • What courses in the program may students learn a discipline’s research method?
    • What student projects were undertaken in the specific discipline?
    • Were these projects successful/unsuccessful? How did you know?
    • How can you use these results to improve?

Diversity: Students graduating from Texas A&M University should be able to function successfully in complex, diverse, social, economic, and political contexts. Organizationally, Texas A&M University must create and maintain an environment that promotes an understanding of the importance of diversity in all of its academic endeavors. The following are pertinent questions to measure this theme:

    • What educational experiences does your program offer to enable students to function successfully in a diverse society?
    • What educational experiences were undertaken in your specific discipline?
    • Were these experiences successful/unsuccessful? How do you know?
    • How do you use these results to improve?

Internationalization: Students graduating from Texas A&M University will be able to function effectively in their chosen career fields in an international setting. The following are pertinent questions to measure this theme:

    • How many students were enrolled in programs that provided opportunities to relate to people in diverse cultural settings?
    • How are students stimulated to participate in international or cross-cultural settings?
    • Have you been successful? Do you know?
    • How can you improve?

Technology: Students graduating from Texas A&M University will be highly competent in the use of modern technology relevant to their chosen career path. The following are pertinent questions to measure this theme:

    • What technologies do students in your college (by discipline) need to know?
    • How are you teaching students to use these technologies?
    • Have you been successful? How do you know?
    • How can you improve?
