Goals of the Refined Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP)
Using inquiry-based approaches, we aim to provide our students with the skills they need to assimilate facts, recognize unanswered questions, formulate strategies for seeking answers, investigate appropriately, and draw valid conclusions. These approaches should aim at increasing student mastery of the following broad learning goals that we feel are essential for ALL of our undergraduates to achieve:
- Communicate effectively in writing and speaking
- Critically analyze
- Possess personal integrity
- Contribute to society
- Master the depth of knowledge required of a discipline/major
These goals have been described in more detail in the Task Force Report on Enhancing the Undergraduate Experience at Texas A&M University in Section 1 of that report on Defining Undergraduate Excellence. In addition, many programs have similar lists of learning goals as required by their various accreditation agencies (see the attached list). Our list is meant to highlight only the broad categories of these goals, leaving the micro details of specific outcomes to the programs that will be carried out within the framework of this QEP.
